This seminar is suitable for both students and construction industry professionals, including: designers, consultants, contractors, clients, and other professionals who wish to gain a broad understanding of BIM and Nearly Zero-energy Buildings and PassivHauss principles.

About the event
Aim and Objectives
The aim of this seminar is to prepare participants to design or retrofit Nearly Zero-energy Buildings in the Tropical Climate using PassivHaus /Bio-climatic principles and to manage construction projects through the use of advanced planning and control techniques and to develop knowledge and skills in the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems to support the successful delivery of construction projects.
• Be able to explain what sustainable construction means for their organisation
• Gain a theoretical and practical understanding of BIM , ,
• Enhance their knowledge on Building physics (fundamentals) , and the Passivhaus/Bioclimatic approach
• Gain a practical understanding of holistic -retrofit design and technology selection
• Explore BIM systems for various construction applications
• Explore cloud/mobile BIM for sharing construction project information
• Be able to develop an action plan for their organisation to adopt BIM ,
• Develop an understanding of collaborative supply chain working practices required to gain competitive advantage in the use of BIM

Who can attend?
• Executives, corporates and industry professionals, architects, engineers and researchers from manufacturing, service and government organizations including R&D laboratories.
• Student students at all levels (BTech/B.Arch/M.Arch/MSc/MTech/PhD) or Faculty from reputed academic institutions and technical institutions.
There is no requirement for previous knowledge in engineering in order to attend this workshop. Also, the software that will be used by the facilitator are Revit, Navisworks, A360 cloud BIM and MS Excel. However, and although not mandatory, participants can still install them on a laptop of memory, at least 8GB RAM.
Dr. Henry Abanda PhD, Dipl.-Ing.,PGcert (Distinction), BSc (Hons), CEng, MIET, FHEA
Dr. Henry Abanda has a BSc (Hons) and Dipl.-Ing. in Mathematics/Physics and Civil Engineering from the University of Buea and École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique (ENSP) de Yaoundé both in Cameroon. After obtaining his degree in Civil Engineering in 2003, Henry worked as a Project Engineer on projects funded by the governments of Cameroon and Japan. Henry obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Technology, Design & Environment at Oxford Brookes University in the UK in 2011. Henry is a Senior Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University. His research interests are in the area of Semantic Web, BIM, and Big Data. He has designed, implemented and delivers the BIM related modules on the undergraduate and post-graduate courses in the School of the Built Environment. He is currently supervising a number of PhD students working on construction project management, facilities management, BIM, Big Data and the Semantic Web. Henry has delivered BIM lectures at the Universidad de Lleida, Spain, Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tarbes, Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, France, and recently at the UN-Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador. Henry was the lead facilitator in training 160 construction professionals through hands-on workshops on the use of BIM for construction project management and quantity surveying as part of the European Regional Development Fund Programme FutureFit Build Assets funded project. Henry’s recent BIM workshop was in the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, a top tier institution of learning in India.
Dr Francesco Nesi
Dr Francesco-Nesi is the director of Zero Energy and Passivhaus Institute for Research (ZEPHIR) in Italy. The Institute ZEPHIR is concerned with the wide spread of the Passivhaus concept throughout Italy. Training, certification, research and consulting are the major business fields of the Institute. The Institute was recently accredited as iPHA Affiliate for Italy. Dr Nesi is also accredited as Passivhaus Certifier and Passivhaus Trainer by PHI. He lead various project in the arts and developing a low energy architecture. He has been teaching and practising architecture for over ten years and during that time the practice has won several Awards. His work and that of the practice are published in books and journals both in the Italy and Europe.
He is an architectural advisor to various institutions around the world including in China, India and Africa. Francesco has developed specific expertise in sustainable, low energy design; community architecture and the provision of arts facilities. He has won a number of national competitions in these areas and is currently engaged in several low energy design based research projects. He is responsible for the widely published Passivhaus standard in Italy and has designed and built a number of interesting low energy houses, community and arts buildings.
Dr. Blaise Mempouo PhD, MSc, BEng (Hons), AME I
Dr Blaise Mempouo is an International consultant with UN-Habitat, Research Fellow and project manager at the University of Nottingham. He has over 10 year's research experience in low carbon building energy technologies and sustainable building design. His research focuses on various aspects of sustainable building services and envelops with the aim of achieving high efficient low/zero carbon technologies and contributing to the development of effective and low carbon economic and energy systems. He has worked on a number of projects related to heat transfer modelling, the development, installation and physical testing of solar powered desiccant cooling systems, Ice slurry cooling, novel heat pumps, inter-seasonal ground heat storage, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies for building applications in the EU, Africa, and Asia. He has advising experience on the development and implementation of Sustainable Building Codes for Africa Countries with UN-Habitat and IFDD. He has a particular interest in research, techniques and applications those enhancing residential/commercial/industrial buildings energy performances and Thermal energy storage (TES). From his degrees, he gained experience on evaluation of the carbon footprint from new and existing buildings and reduction using Low/Zero carbon technologies; He was awarded a PhD in Heat Pump Technologies and Low Carbon Homes, MSc in Renewable Energy from Newcastle University, and a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with First Class honours from Coventry University.
